Exploration Geophysicist - Seismic Interpretation

Dry Hole Diagnosis

Dry hole or unexpected drilling results

Wildcat exploration is always risky.

But reservoir delineation and development dry holes are unacceptable, especially in costly offshore plays.

CWSX is often asked to provide independent assessment of what went wrong. Working with professional staff at your office, our approach is friendly, supportive, rigorous and objective.

The goal is not to "point fingers" but rather to identify needs for staff development, improved workflow and best practice.

CONFIDENTIAL, INDEPENDENT POST MORTEM REVIEW

Due diligence and data QC
CRS navigation, well data locations, seismic data acquisition and processing parameters

Seismic Interpretation
Well data tied to seismic using available rock velocity measurements
Checkshots, VSP vertical seismic profile, Sonic logs, Depth Conversion
Structural interpretation geologically robust, fits regional trend and basin tectonic history
Nearby wells correlated and reservoir characteristics studied
Structural prospects identified from seismic mapping
Stratigraphic prospects and depositional patterns of reservoir quality sands
plausibly and properly inferred from regional study of seismic attributes
Seismic attributes evaluated from rock response such as acoustic impedance contrast
Rock responses inferred only from well ties correlation of reservoir parameters to
seismic response at already drilled well locations

G&G Staff Development
Identify what went wrong and recommend in-service mentoring, staff development,
improved prospect generation and reservoir modelling, or specialist software tools
to build a smarter, scientifically "deterministic" approach to oil exploration
